Mission

RSU Public Television - licensed to Rogers State University and Oklahoma’s only University licensed Public Television station - exists to serve the University, students, its members and citizens of Northeast Oklahoma with innovative television programming and services of the highest quality, using new technologies to advance education, culture and citizenship.

History

As the only full-powered public television station licensed to a public university in Oklahoma, RSU Public TV provides educational, cultural and general interest programming to an audience of 1.2 million viewers in northeastern Oklahoma, and the Tulsa metropolitan area.

RSU is recognized as a national leader in providing distance learning opportunities for students, and RSU Public TV’s production expertise has been a key component in this endeavor. In addition to producing educational telecourses and “live” interactive college and high school concurrent courses, RSU Public TV also produces special interest local programming, children’s programs and documentary features.

RSU Public TV is operated by a full-time professional staff. The station also serves as an instructional facility for RSU broadcasting students interested in rewarding careers in the television industry. Students perform numerous functions in the station’s day-to-day operations.

RSU Public TV broadcasts at 2.75 million watts from its 850-foot tower via UHF Channel 35 and is carried on 76 cable systems including Cox Cable Channel 19 in Tulsa and Claremore. The station broadcasts from 6:00 a.m. to midnight daily.

RSU Public TV is currently involved in a digital conversion project made possible through substantial appropriations from the Oklahoma State Legislature and the U.S. Department of Commerce-- Public Telecommunications Facilities Program. The station's new digital television signal D-36 is now available in test mode. Viewers with digital receivers may view the digital signal at this time. RSU Public TV will continue to broadcast concurrently in both UHF 35 and D-36 until 2009 as mandated by the Federal Communications Commission.
