The Coleman Theatre Beautiful

The television station’s first High Definition (HD) production is now available on DVD. The documentary takes viewers on a trip down historic Route 66 to explore one of Oklahoma’s oldest and most elegant theaters still in existence - the Coleman Theatre in Miami, Okla.

The documentary explores the beauty of the theater’s architecture and its history through stories, archival footage and photographs from past performances. Independent Native American producers Dan Bigbee and Lily Shangreaux of Stillwater-based BIG Productions worked in collaboration with RSU Public TV producer Tim Yoder to produce the documentary.

Originally a vaudeville theatre and movie palace, the Coleman Theatre opened to a full house of 1,600 at a $1 a seat, on April 18, 1929. Built by George L. Coleman, Sr., a local mining magnate, the opulent structure with Louis XV interior design dazzled the audiences of the day. From that day forward the Coleman has never been “dark.”

Also included in the $29.95 DVD is The Jewel of the Coleman, an up-close look at the spectacular 2,000 pound crystal chandelier.

Season 1 Woodturning Workshop

The Woodturning Workshop series explores one of the nation’s fastest growing hobbies – woodturning. During each episode, host Tim Yoder will explore the step-by-step process of using a wood lathe to turn a block of wood into a unique piece of artwork or useful household item. Viewers watch the entire process unfold and receive helpful, hands-on advice.

The show’s host, Tim Yoder, has practiced and taught woodturning for more than a decade, and in 2004 he was named “Woodturner of the Year” for the Northeastern Oklahoma Woodturners Association. With more than 25 years experience as a television photojournalist and producer, Yoder is no stranger to the television business.

Bryan Crain photographs and directs the series capturing the intricacies of woodturning and creating visual a teaching lesson for viewers.
